Shrooms

The Shrooms is a temporary drug designed to dramatically enhance offensive performance while layering intense audiovisual effects onto the player’s experience. It primarily boosts firing speed and accuracy, making it one of the most impactful combat items available.

When collected, Shrooms grant a timed buff that improves weapon handling and modifies several gameplay systems. Each pickup adds 40 seconds of active duration, up to a maximum of 120 seconds. The item respawns between 40 and 60 seconds randomly, with a global announcement issued 10 seconds before it reappears, allowing teams to prepare or contest it.

While active, Shrooms enhances weapon performance in several ways:

  • Faster firing speed : Weapon delay is reduced, effectively increasing fire rate. Most classes gain a significant boost, while the Junkie class receives an even stronger multiplier.
  • Improved accuracy : Weapon spread is reduced, tightening shot grouping and making sustained fire more reliable at range.
  • Semi-auto weapon enhancement : Semi-automatic weapons normally force a brief idle state between shots. Under Shrooms, this limitation is removed, allowing continuous firing by holding the trigger. This dramatically increases their damage potential and responsiveness.

The effect timer continues to count down once activated. When fewer than four seconds remain, a warning sound alerts the player. Upon expiration, a message confirms the effect has ended. Any active boosts are also removed immediately if the player dies.

  • Junkie : This class benefits the most from Shrooms. Boost duration and strength scale higher, and weapon bonuses are stronger than those of other classes.
  • Priest — Miracle ability : When this ability is active, item pickups—including Shrooms—grant double value. This can significantly extend or intensify the boost window.

Shrooms is designed to feel as intense as it is powerful. While active:

  • A full-screen overlay and HUD icon indicate the effect.
  • Post-processing filters gradually fade in, including edge-enhancement and distortion effects.
  • After extended use, hallucinatory visuals may trigger for a random duration.
  • Radial blur increases with effect intensity.
  • Weapon sounds shift to a higher pitch.
  • Environmental audio reverb changes to a distinct preset tied to the effect.

These sensory changes escalate over time, reinforcing the temporarily altered state.

Picking up Shrooms grants a small experience reward and increments a stat that tracks how many have been consumed. Certain achievements are tied to its use, including one for activating all boosts simultaneously and another linked to specific class-weapon combinations.

Level designers can place this item directly in maps using its entity name. Because of its strong combat impact, placement location and respawn timing can significantly influence match flow and strategic control points.
